How it works

1. Initial Enquiry

You can get in touch by email to request an appointment. At this stage, a brief outline of the difficulties you are experiencing is helpful. This allows me to determine whether a private outpatient consultation is the right setting for your needs.

2. Booking an Appointment

Appointments are arranged directly and can usually be offered within a short timeframe. Consultations are conducted via video (Zoom), with availability during the day, as well as evenings and weekends.

3. Initial Consultation

The first appointment typically lasts around 60 minutes. It is a detailed and structured assessment covering your current difficulties, background history, and any previous treatment.

The aim is to develop a clear understanding of what is going on, rather than simply applying a label.

4. Diagnosis and Treatment Plan

Following the assessment, I will provide a working diagnosis where appropriate and outline a clear treatment plan. This may include:

  • Advice on medication
  • Psychological approaches
  • Practical steps to improve sleep, anxiety, or mood
  • Recommendations for further support if needed

5. Follow-Up

Follow-up appointments are arranged as required. These are typically used to monitor progress, review treatment, and make adjustments where necessary.

Not all patients require ongoing psychiatric input. Where appropriate, I will advise on stepping down to other forms of support.

6. Reports and Communication

A summary letter can be provided after the consultation. With your consent, this can also be shared with your GP or other relevant professionals to ensure continuity of care.

Home Alcohol Detox

A home alcohol detox offers a safe, discreet, and effective way to stop drinking, supported by specialist medical care in the comfort of your own environment.

For many people, alcohol becomes closely tied to sleep, anxiety, and day-to-day functioning. Attempting to stop without support can lead to significant withdrawal symptoms and, in some cases, medical risk. A carefully managed detox provides a controlled, structured starting point for recovery.

The process begins with a comprehensive consultation. This allows for a detailed understanding of your alcohol use, general health, and wider circumstances, ensuring that a home detox is both appropriate and safe.

If suitable, a personalised detox plan is put in place.

This typically includes:

  • Specialist prescribing to safely manage withdrawal
  • A front-loaded medication approach to achieve early stabilisation
  • Rapid reduction in anxiety and physical symptoms
  • Control of craving and nausea within the first few hours
  • Support for restorative sleep from the first night
  • Clear, structured guidance throughout the detox period

The emphasis is on achieving stability early—often within the first 24 hours—so that the remainder of the detox proceeds in a calm and controlled way. Most patients feel significantly more settled within the first day, with improved sleep and reduced distress.

Detoxification usually takes place over 7-8 days, with ongoing monitoring and support throughout.

Not all patients are suitable for a home detox. Where there are higher levels of medical or psychiatric risk, or where the home environment does not allow for safe management, alternative pathways will be recommended.

Detox is not an end in itself, but the beginning of change. Following completion, I provide clear guidance on next steps, including relapse prevention and longer-term strategies to maintain progress.

The approach throughout is careful, discreet, and focused on delivering a safe and effective outcome.
