Alcohol problems are common, often develop gradually, and are frequently misunderstood. Many people function at a high level for years while alcohol quietly becomes central to sleep, anxiety management, and day-to-day coping.
I offer specialist assessment and treatment for alcohol-related difficulties, ranging from emerging patterns of overuse to more established dependence.
The first step is a detailed consultation. This focuses on understanding your current drinking, the role alcohol plays in your life, and any associated psychological or physical issues. From this, we develop a clear and realistic plan.
For those who require it, I offer medically supervised home detoxification.
A home detox is designed to:
My approach typically involves front-loading medication (usually diazepam) early in the detox. This allows rapid control of withdrawal symptoms, meaning that many patients feel significantly more settled within the first 24 hours. The aim is a detox with minimal distress and, in many cases, good sleep from the first night.
Not everyone is suitable for a home detox. Careful assessment is essential to ensure safety. Where risks are higher—for example, significant physical health problems, complex psychiatric presentations, or unstable living circumstances—alternative arrangements may be recommended.
Detox is only the first step. Where appropriate, I will advise on ongoing treatment, which may include psychological support, relapse prevention strategies, and longer-term planning.
The emphasis throughout is on safety, clarity, and a straightforward, effective approach to recovery.
Please note that I do not ask for or accept referral fees from any in-patient treatment centre
Referral fees are commonly paid in mental health/addictions to psychiatrists and other doctors who refer private patients for in-patient treatment
I personally do not agree with this practice and hence I am able to offer you completely impartial advice about treatment
